From 16 to 24 June, Film Forge had the pleasure of welcoming 22 talented young filmmakers and their 4 mentors from Ghetto Film School‘s New York and Los Angeles campuses to Nu Boyana Film Studios for an unforgettable filmmaking experience.
The program began with three intensive days of pre-production, allowing the students to experience every stage of professional filmmaking before the cameras started rolling. Working alongside our crew, they took part in location preparation, equipment selection, scheduling, and creative planning.
Throughout the program, the students were integrated into different production departments, where they worked side by side with experienced industry professionals. It was an inspiring exchange of knowledge, ideas, and creativity, allowing them to ask questions, gain practical experience, and collaborate with people who work in the film industry every day.
The participants brought two original projects to life:
A Man and His Moon (created by the Los Angeles group)
Pastry Girl (created by the New York group)
Filming took place across a variety of locations at Nu Boyana Film Studios, where the students transformed their ideas into reality with the support of professional crews, world-class facilities, and four intensive shooting days.
One of the most rewarding moments came at the end of the program when we asked the students about their experience. Many shared that they had previously worked on smaller productions, but nothing compared to the scale of filming at Nu Boyana Film Studios. Being part of an international crew, collaborating with professionals in Bulgaria, and working across the studio’s extensive facilities gave them a unique perspective on large-scale filmmaking. For many, it was an unforgettable milestone in their filmmaking journey.
